Orange County Republicans Endorse Rep. Michelle Steel for Re-election

Steel is seeking a third term in Congress.

The Republican Party of Orange County has announced the organization is throwing its weight behind Rep. Michelle Steel in her quest for a third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Steel represents California’s 45th Congressional District.

"The Republican Party of Orange County proudly supports Congresswoman Michelle Steel,” said OCGOP Chairman Fred Whitaker. “Whether she’s fighting for lower taxes, getting our economy back-on-track, or standing up to the CCP, Congresswoman Steel is a strong voice in Congress, fighting each and every day for the voters of her district.”

Steel won re-election in 2022 by nearly 5% in a district President Joe Biden won by over 6%. She is also one of the first Korean Americans elected to serve in Congress.

Steel recently made headlines for her comments made during the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party’s first hearing.

“More than one third of my constituents are Asian Americans. Many of them are first generation immigrants who, like my own parents, fled communism to find freedom in this country,” Steel said. “For them and for me, the threat from the Chinese Communist Party is personal. It is the greatest single threat facing the American people and democracy around the world.”

Steel also introduced bipartisan legislation which would authorize the president to lend or lease defense supplies to Taiwan in case of a Chinese invasion.

“There is no doubt that the CCP is the greatest threat to global stability and America’s national security,” said Steel. “As they continue to threaten Taiwan and openly challenge the United States, it is more important than ever that we take immediate and decisive action to deter further aggression against our allies.

“The Taiwan Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act will send an unmistakable message to the CCP that the United States stands with our allies and is prepared to arm Taiwan with the tools it needs to defend itself from a CCP attack. The time to put an end to a CCP invasion is before it begins. That is why I am calling on every single one of my colleagues – on both sides of the aisle – to support this urgent and crucial bipartisan legislation.”

Steel also serves on the Ways and Means committee where she works on slowing inflation and creating a more prosperous economic situation.
