Hollywood actor Ben Savage announces candidacy for California’s 30th Congressional District seat

The seat is currently held by Rep. Adam Schiff, who is running for U.S. Senate.

Actor Ben Savage announced this week his candidacy to replace Adam Schiff as the representative for California’s 30th Congressional District representing the residents of Burbank, Glendale, Hollywood, and West Hollywood. Schiff is running to fill the seat left vacant in 2024 with the retirement of Sen. Diane Feinstein.

Savage, who holds a Political Science degree from Stanford University, campaigned for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council in 2022. Only one other person has declared candidacy for the position, West Hollywood Mayor Sepi Shyne.

“I’m running for Congress because it’s time to restore faith in government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to our country’s most pressing issues.” Savage said in a statement released by his campaign.

“And it’s time for new and passionate leaders who can help move our country forward. Leaders who want to see the government operating at maximum capacity, unhindered by political divisions and special interests.”

Savage, who was born in Chicago, credits his parents for getting him into acting and is best known for his lead role as Cory Matthews in Boy Meets World (1993) appearing in all 158 episodes, and Girl Meets World (2014) television series.

“I am a proud Californian, union member and longtime resident of District 30 who comes from a family of unwavering service to our country and community. I firmly believe in standing up for what is right, ensuring equality and expanding opportunities for all,” Savage stated.
