Bill Clinton Praises President Trump for Role in Israel-Hamas Ceasefire

In a rare moment of bipartisan acknowledgment, former President Bill Clinton praised Donald Trump for his leadership in securing the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, crediting the former Republican president and his team for helping bring stability to a region long torn by conflict.

“The horrors of the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel and the conflict they reignited have resulted in unbearable human loss,” Clinton wrote. “It has been hard to watch and nearly impossible to rationalize.”

Clinton went on to applaud the results of Trump’s diplomatic push. “I’m grateful that a ceasefire has taken hold, that the last 20 hostages have been freed, and that desperately needed aid has begun to flow into Gaza,” he continued. “President Trump and his administration, Qatar, and other regional actors deserve great credit for keeping everyone engaged until the agreement was reached.”

Coming from a man who spent years feuding with Trump, the words marked a striking departure from the Clintons’ usual rhetoric. Clinton also called on both sides to seize the opportunity for lasting peace. “With support from the U.S., the region, and the world, Israel and Hamas must try to turn this fragile moment into lasting peace that provides the dignity and security of both Palestinians and Israelis,” he wrote. “I believe that they can get there, but only if they do it together.”

The public commendation highlights a sharp contrast between Trump’s results-driven foreign policy and the Clintons’ years of criticism toward him. During Trump’s presidency, both Bill and Hillary Clinton repeatedly accused him of undermining “democratic norms,” while Trump labeled Hillary “Crooked Hillary” during the 2016 campaign.

Just months ago, Bill Clinton had questioned Trump’s and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s intentions in handling tensions with Iran, suggesting on The Daily Show that both leaders opposed a Palestinian state. Yet even then, Clinton admitted he hoped Trump would act to “defuse” the crisis rather than escalate it.

Trump ultimately did just that—launching Operation Midnight Hammer to eliminate Iran’s uranium sites and pave the way for new peace talks in the Middle East.

Even Hillary Clinton, who has been among Trump’s fiercest critics, acknowledged his success in securing the ceasefire. “I really commend President Trump and his administration, as well as Arab leaders in the region, for making the commitment to the 20-point plan, and seeing a path forward for what is often called the day after,” she told CBS News following Hamas’ agreement to Trump’s peace proposal.

In August, she went even further, telling the Raging Moderates podcast that if Trump could convince Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine and return occupied territory, “I’d nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize.”

While the Clintons’ praise may surprise many, it underscores what even Trump’s critics are beginning to recognize: his willingness to take bold, decisive action where career politicians hesitated.
